Every year, SDBFF director, Karen Willis requires new branding identity: logo design, web, and event materials: programs, tickets, signage, banners, etc.
Goals: To be the leader in facilitating the production of film, television and commercials in the San Diego area, and to be a leader in African American & African Diaspora Cinema and arts.
My role included: HTML website updates, logo redesign, and designs of event materials. The requests were rigorous, up to two months prior to and while the event was taking place, flexibility of design creation, modifications, with quick turnaround times were fulfilled. I was brought in initally to assist in the 2012 web page edits, and awarded the full design project through 2015.
Collaboration with the director took place on a regular basis of visual concepts, and fulfilling the creative vision starting with the logo. Discovery included font types along with looking at other film festivals throughout the country. Web design showcasing film trailers, and most of the important works came by meeting the needs of quick turnaround and execution. Print design projects soon followed and delivered: Banner ads, tri-fold programs, ticket design, badges, etc.
Since this time, I had the experiences of working with other graphic designers, copy writers, business owners, V.P. and Executives of Marketing, and with 3rd party vendor contractors. Most recently, I've become a mentor to graphic design students (San Diego State University) and to a Jr. Web Designer (SDSU Global Campus), sharing with each of them experiences and where we all can be, and do better.
